Looking for a solution to the Texas heat I installed two 12 inch electric fans and a transmission cooler.
I feels that I have a new truck! temperature is down to a mind blowing 41.5 degrees, and you can't even hear the fans running!!

Our long time friend here Explorer Tom did the same swap over last week or so, and reported the same great improvements. How long have you had yours installed? Any issues? What brands did you install? Our readers might care to know.

Sounds like the OP installed 2 electric pusher fans on the front and retained his mechanical clutch fan on the engine.

I replaced the mechanical fan with 2 electric puller fans.

Similar results, but different execution.

I haven't put a thermometer on my AC, but I do find myself actually turning down the fan. That's not something I would do before so it must be colder.

I'm going to add a pusher fan to my Explorer on the transmission cooler.

Here is a picture of the fans I purchased from amazon. The price is the most amazing thing! $31.99 for the set of 2!

GI Jo, I think your heading for a world of hurt with those made in China Fans. I hope I'm wrong, though rarely I am. A fan motor, and the supporting sensors need to be tip top shelf quality. You are new to the forum. Hate to see you, or your mechanic go through all the labor, and find out your overheating in that Texas heat. Just my 2 cents Sir.

I like the idea of adding electric pusher fans in front of your condenser while keeping your mechanical engine fan for use also...
Add a diode and manual switch for when towing also...

I appreciate your concern 1955moose, but as ogre20012001 stated I left my mechanical fan on. The electric fans are just an addition. I am my own mechanic. Working on this truck however labor intensive may be at times is my PTSD therapy. Look forward to the advice and wisdom on this forum on my future projects. Around February 2019 I will be searching for a 2006 or newer 4.6 Cobra engine to install in this truck. Any advice?

No help on the 4.6 cobra, sorry. At the least, you'll need a computer and supporting wiring to hook up the sensors. I would think its a bolt in fit. Maybe one of our members has done the swap. You might want to poke around the mustang columns, and throw the question out to them also.

You are right the Terminator's last production year was 2004, but the Cobra engine continued production in the Lincoln Aviator. I plan on buying an Aviator and taking engine and transmission for my truck. If the interior is in good condition I will use it in my daughter's Explorer.

Actually the last cobra motor in the terminators produced 390hp the ones in the aviators only pushed 302 hp big and 300 ftlbs and last used in 2005 the last year of the aviators . I’d rather keep the 5.4 though it has only 260 hp it still make 50ft-lbs more of torque and with the weight of the expeditions id rather have the torque.

How bout the 5.4 with a supercharger? One of our members loves his with 380 hp. That way you got plenty of gitty up! That would be a SUV I'd want my dad to pass along to me.

here's how wiki describes the 5R55E tranny

The Ford C3 transmission and its descendants are a family of light-duty longitudinal automatic transmissions built by the Ford Motor Company.

390 horsepower, and matching 390 torque, pretty nice. Problem is it's a high rpm engine that was put in a 3300 pound car. It might not be quite as lively in a 5800 pound sheet metal hippopotamus, like we drive. What would be sweet is supercharge or turbo that motor with low boost. That loss of low rpm would come back in spades. That mouse could scare the Elephant! I'd just reread the specs, the 390 ft lbs of torque come on at 3500 rpm, almost half the horsepower rpm. Pretty impressive. Bore it .060 over, stroker rods and you got a fun SUV to haul the kids in.

That is not a bad idea. If I was to go with a Cobra engine I would have to find a place for my battery since the intake on the Cobra engine goes to the left of the engine vs straight forward and to the right on the truck's original 4.6 or 5.4. The one thing IO would definitely have to upgrade when changing to a 5.4 will be sleeves for the spark plugs. I still think that boring the 4.6 Cobra to accept bigger pistons and will also be a viable alternative. I like the idea of a forge crankshaft and piston rods that are way beefier than what I currently have.

Mount the battery in the rear, no biggie. Stereo guys do that all the time. You'll have to do your homework on bigger cylinder sleeves if that's the route you want to go. I'd find out who makes stroker rods, and go with the beefiest ones out there. And go with a .030 overbore. That's usually a safe bet. Chevy does that with their small blocks all the way from 350 to 406ci. Can't see why you can't get at least to 5.1 ci safely. The options are endless with how far you can go. Keep in mind though that for every horsepower you go up, reliability will go down. It's just one of those tradeoffs, that's been going on since our grandfather's started souping up 32 Ford flatheads!
