Hey guys. Just picked up a 2007 EL with just under 160k. I noticed it stumbling at WOT. CE came on and checked for codes and got a #1 cylinder misfire code. So I guess at this point I should at least replace that coil. Do you guys think I should just replace all coils or just replace the one? I traded off an 06 Explorer 4.6 in which I did replace plugs in it. It was an interesting experience to say the least. So I know that it MAY be possible that i will have to do the same with this vehicle. If I do I will wait until I get a plug removing tool.

It could be a coil that is bad or could be a bad plug or even the boot that connects the plug to the coil But with you milage it may be best to replace all of them One of the best things to do for plug removal is to spray some PB Blaser in the wells and let it soak for a bit Then take and turnnthe plug out and in back and forth until the plug comes out. May be a good idea if you want to pick up the removal tool if needed.

Any idea as to when the plugs were last changed?? The reason I mention the boots is I once had a misfire on the #4 plug on a 99 expy and the problem was a pin hole in the boot When you remove the boots carefully inspect them for any signs of a burn mark or difference in the collor of the rubber.

I just picked up the car today. I knew about the CE light so it wasn't a surprise that it was a misfire code. I have no idea about when or if the plugs or coils have ever been changed. A year ago, I changed the plugs in my 06 Explorer. All but one plug had broke! It was a good thing I had the tool. I did sell the tool though. So now I need to look into purchasing a new one.

Would I notice any improvement with Accel coils?

I can't give an opinion on coils as the only ones that I have had were original motorcraft Haven't had the need to change them yet On my 99 I only changed the plugs and boots. My misfire problem was due to a pin hole in the boot I will be changing plugs and boots in my 01 soon but will leave the coils on as I am not having any problems at the moment

Received the coil. Pulled the old one out and all this sand dumped out of ignition coil. Plug valley was also full of sand. Put new coil in and no check engine light. Engine more responsive and I can definitely feel more torque just tapping on gas. However... I drove it and anything past half throttle results in a horrible stumble. Never saw check engine light. Guess I need to order new plugs.
