Well, thanks to some of the advice of the folks here, I pulled the trigger and made an offer on a 2006 XLT 4X4. Love it.

Here is the new rig:

So heres the big question: What are the "must have" mods for these 2nd gens? Is there a "Stage guide" like on other cars? Let me know where to get started first!

Thanks.

Congrats on the new ride! As far as mods I guess it depends on which route you wanna go: lowered\lifted etc. I don't know if there's necessarily a stage guide to follow, I think it's more personal preference but that's just my opinion. I personally started with a K&N intake and exhaust, then I moved on to lights inside and out, now looking into paint. Hope this is helpful and now officially welcome to the family!

welcome. as mike says depends on what you want to do with it. i would start with intake and exhaust. Lights are in easy way to make it more your style. leds colored or white. window tint is always a good option.

Thank guys. I think I will focus initially on breathing better and helping with fuel economy (if that's even possible with this Hulk). Followed up by interior stuff. I just conditioned the leather with Blue Magic cleaner and conditioner. Now to install a GPS. Not sure which K&N filters to buy.. still working on that.

1997SCEBFEX - Im in Tennessee.

Im looking forward to being a part of this community!

K&N part # 57-2556, I paid about $320 + tax. I'm happy with it, wish I would've paid the extra $50 for the polished one just for looks.

Welcome! I have been on here every day since I brought my 2006 expedition 1 month ago.
I have learned a lot about the first ford I ever owned .

Looks good! What type of performance gain did you see?

I didn't have it dyno'd or anything but I could definitely notice a difference. Throttle response was great, mpg's only went up 1.5-2 mpg but that could be due to my right foot lol. I had stock exhaust when I installed it and it even made that sound good, I have flowmaster now and it sounds awesome. I think K&N estimated 8-15hp gain and I would definitely say it's somewhere between there.

first thing first. Change all the spark plugs and coil on plugs with new ones from ford. just get that out of the way, and be done with it. Kind of expensive, but it will allow you to keep it running longer.

with that out of the way, you did the K&N CAI. Good. most say dont do that.. I say good, glad you did the same thing I did, LOL

I also cut out the muffler and added a 2 chamber flowmaster and a polished stainless 4" tip.

I also did 22's with Nitto NT420S tires (hate the tires, gonna be replaced in next few weeks)

Then I did the brake upgrade. I did drilled and slotted rotors with performance ceramic pads. I got mine from ROTORPROS - Performance Brakes - Brake Pads, Brake Rotors and Brake Kits WORTH EVERY DIME I PAID TOO!!!

I just bought a 2004 4x4 XLT SSV (police package) with a 5.4L. I'm looking at the K&N air filter; I'm talking to K&N and researching it right now - it is extremely difficult to get real world answers about their performance, btw. with the 3.73 rear, it already has impressive acceleration, though i pay for it with 11+ city mpg, and almost 16 highway mpg on 93 octane.
The plugs were changed about 12k miles before I bought it (i have the carfax). I have to replace rear rotors, probably going to go solid EBC with ceramic pads. Must get tires this year, planning for Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure w/Kevlar in 315/70/17 with a 3/2 lift. I want a body lift, but I am not going to put the RIZE 8", $4300 lift on it. Not happening. If i can't find something cheaper and lower, there won't be a body lift. I am concerned about the skinny ass front drive shaft coming out of the differential... judging from the case, the actual shaft inside it might be less than an inch in diameter... it does not look like it will handle much torque to a big tire. any input on this would be welcome.
I'm researching programmers, and exhausts. This one came with dual cats feeding into a single muffler, I want headers into the cats, with duals all the way back through two mufflers. I'm looking for the NBX skid plates, and I will have the dealer perform the J-Mod on the 4R70 transmission.
your suggestions are welcome.
thanks for your time.
