Hi Guys, new to this site and also Ford, this is my first, its a 2012 limited expedition, loaded with DVD system, 3.73 rear, and load leveling suspension. Funny story, I have a 2009 ram truck, that towed my past capmer(starcraft 2010, 27' 5k unloaded weight), now bought a 2012 passport 3180 RE, 32' 6K unloaded weight. Anyway, my Ram has been in the shop with tranny issues, covered under warranty but a pain none the less, so time for the wife to get a vehicle, and since I dont trust the ram on our long trips, bought the above model to tow the camper, and the truck will tow my boat(2006 Nitro 189 sport, 2800 lbs dry)

Pick up the Expedition tonight, look forward to gaining info on this rig, as I never owned a Ford before, all chevy's and one Ram.

congrats on the new ride and welcome to the site. I have not towed a travel trailer with my Expy yet (2011, 2wd, tow package) but have towed our boat about 4000-4500 lbs behind it and also towed it with a 2011 Ram. They pulled pretty similar. A travel trailer will obviously be a lot different and many of the other guys use theirs to pull them with a WDH. Good luck and you will appreciate the road manners and comfort of the Expy. Not that the Rams are bad at all - but definitely different.

Congrats on the new rig. I tow a boat about 3500-4000 lbs with my 2011 Limited EL. Pulls well. I have a few suggestions:

1) Put some miles on the Expy for break-in. I read my owners manual and there was a descrepancy in it with regard to break-in for towing. One part of the manual said to not tow until 500 miles. In another part of the manual it noted that one should not tow a trailer until it had 1000 miles. So I err'd on the side of 1000mi. So I drove it a bunch in the first couple of weeks. I had about 1350mi before I towed the boat. Considering now a year later I have totaled just over 8K on the odometer that was a busy couple of weeks for the Expedition.

2) Buy yourself a monitor. I use the Scangauge II. The Expedition doesn't come with a Transmission Temperature gauge. However there is a sensor so the Scangauge II will monitor it for you. Also the dash gauges are passed through the computer before registering their value. This I have determined to be true. The Scangauge II monitors my engine temp as well and it typically shows 193-198 engine coolant temp but once in a while it will rise to 205 (I've even seen 209 once) The dash gauge doesn't even move a fraction of a degree. So I have very little confidence in the dash gauge.

3) Enjoy the ride. It is nice and pulls my boat well with the 6sp transmission. The tow/haul mode does a good job of downshifting when going down hills. You just tap on the brakes and the engine will downshift. Then I let off the gas and the Expy holds it's speed well.
