New truck or not?

Hi All,
I have a 2007 Expedition and I'm trying to decide whether of not to keep it. It has 178,000 miles and right now needs tie rod ends, fix leaky timing chain cover and a few other small things. I love the truck and don't really want to sell. Any thoughts on what kind of major repairs might be in my future?

Would you be paying cash? If not if this months repairs are less than a months payment I would stay with it. If you don’t expect other repairs for a few months then if the repairs are less than a down payment then I would stick with it. It is when it starts costing more than a car payment that I look at replacing. For example when my Caravan was running $400 a month in repairs and having to use other transportation. Individually minor things they added up. When you commute 110 miles round trip renting a car to not miss work also adds up because there isn’t time to do the repair after work and get up the next day for work.

You're approaching end of it'd usable life. If you can afford it, sell it while it's still running and get into the newest one you can comfortably afford with lowest miles possible.

Not really near end of life, but it will start costing more to maintain with miles. They are designed to hit 250-300k for end of life but obviously continual maintenance is required. If you don’t want any headaches down the road upgrade time is coming up. I’m likely going keep my 07’ around as a backup vehicle until she dies after I upgrade.

I replaced my '07 at the same mileage. Guy who bought it came over in an old F150 with over 250,000 miles and was thrilled to get a "low mileage" model. I didn't want to keep it though.
