Hello my name is Stan, I recently picked up a 2001 Eddie Bauer from a friend. I bought it cheap knowing it had some issues to resolve. Overall things look good, Solid body, decent interior. The issues , bad tires and a persistant misfire issue. The later is what I need help with. I have tools and some knowledge of machanics, that is to say not a novice, not a pro and willing to take on most mechanical issues. With help I hope to put this Expy on the road!

Is the misfire throwing a code? If so, track down that COP (coil on plug) and see what's up. Some people will say that COPs don't go bad and you just need to replace the boots. I disagree.

The misfire could be caused by a plug well filled with oil (or water from a recent engine wash) caused by a leaky valve cover.

If you don't know when the spark plugs were replaced, replace them. There's a good video on YouTube by FordTechMackuloco where he describes the need to slightly over torque the plugs. And at minimum, replace the boots. If you do decide to replace the COPs, everyone seems to agree that Motorcraft are the best- there are other options but results are mixed. Replacing COPs is not a tough job, but it's one that I don't want to have to do very often.

Hello, I have a 5.4L with a misfire on #8. Yea I know, I've read a few threads about it so far but none seem to fully apply to my situation. So far I have pulled the connectors off one at a time (the ones going to the coils as well as the injectors). Nothing changes when i pull the connectors until I reach the cop connector on #8, lining up with code p0358 (the only code so far). I switched the cop and plug from a good cylinder ,#8 still missfires. I have continuity from connector c119 to connector at the coil. I don't know what the ohm reading should be so checked for continuity.I' m going all the way to the PCM in the morning to look for breaks.Good steady voltage on the other line. In my case the red/w green stripe. If this has already been covered in a thread(s)apologies. If anyone would point me in the right direction I'd be greatful.

I posted the above in first generation section. I'm not sure about the boot issue. I'll pull it tomorrow to look at the condition .
