I have a have a '12 Expedition EL and the rear air is not working. When I turn on the rear air or adjust the fan speed for the rear all I hear is a clicking noise. The noise only happens when I turn the rear air on or adjust fan speed, one click each time I push a button. I have checked both diverter door actuators, even with both unplugged the clicking noise occurs. I also took them apart and the gears look good as new. I have also tried to disconnect the rear blower motor but that did not work either. Am I missing something? Is there another part back there that could cause what I am experiencing? Any help would be appreciated I have two little girls that are roasting in the car right now. Thanks......

There are indeed two actuators in the rear unit - one easily accessible under the cupholder and top trim piece, the second one is not so easily accessible, a few inches lower and further to the rear, kind of a side-facing set-up and removal of this component is easiest when you pull loose the entire rear panel. I see you mentioned you checked "both" diverter door actuators. When you had each of these components removed, did you happen to turn the truck on to see if the clicking noise follows?

The part number on mine was 1L2H-19E616-BB and only about 1/4 of one gear was chewed up, enough to cause the same clicking noise heard whenever making adjustments.

Outside of these $40 actuators, I'm not aware of any component that causes this somewhat common clicking noise.

I did test/turn the AC on when I had both together and each individually unplugged. The clicking still occured.

I have an actuator on order and will test with the new unit as well, just to completely rule the actuator out, but I don't have much confidence this will be my fix.

I have the feeling I am just not getting any power back there because the blower isn't even turning on in the rear. Is there a fuse or relay or group there of that I should look in to?

Thanks for the reply

I am thinking relay too, or possibly a bad blower motor. I had the wife push the fan speed button while I was in the back and the clicking is definitely coming from the blower motor area. I will have some time tomorrow to go over fuses and relays, will post back once I have a chance to determine the issue. Thanks for the suggestions
