Item of interest for those who like me are/were in the market for a Black or Red Ford Product. Take it at face value.. here it is..

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Legend has it that back in the old days Henry Ford would tell prospective Model T buyers, "you can have any color you like, so long as it's black." But today, as Japanese suppliers scramble to come back on line after the devastating earthquake and tsunami, Ford Motor Co. is asking its dealers to order trucks and SUVs in any color but black."

Full Story Here .. if you believe main stream media.

Speaking of California Dusters .. do they add to paint swirl? I've always heard of them, but never invested in one. That may save me some time and some elbow grease from my insane wash procedure.

Black is the best!!! It is a PITA to keep clean though when you live on a gravel road, my parents both own black trucks and they are always filthy. My old gray F150 was silver, you could never tell whether it was clean or filthy :) But I won't be buying a brand new truck for a very long time, so I guess it doesn't bother me

thats a negative they dont leave swirls, its coated in parrafin (i spelled it wrong as hell but you know what i mean) wax so when it touches the dust it coats it in wax. i use it every morning before work with some spray detailer and microfiber, and usually i wash it once a week depending on rain

Usually, anything that drags over your paint will induce mircomarring at the very least. Even when washing, improper washing/drying techniques will also results in swirling/scratches in your paint.

Darker colors and blacks, though more difficult to upkeep, look very nice when cleaned up. They also show swirling the easiest. I'm sure all of you have seen black cars with swirling and holograming. This can come from something as simple as rubbing your hand on dirty paint to buffing too hard when removing wax.

Lighter colors, like white, don't show swirling or micormarring as easily. I know my paint is, at the very least, micromarred like crazy, but a simple coat of wax will make it "look good" from a distance. Not the case with black, which will show hologramming out in the sun without having to do a closer inspection.

Either way, back on topic, I though I had heard a while back that Cali was wanting to ban black paint jobs, claiming that black cars waste more gas since the AC has to work harder to cool down the car.

Nice, the XP sure is an upgrade from the "normal" version. My parent's red truck doesn't take much to clean up, even with just a G100 (original PC clone), and some XMT360 (an all in one). Still some etching here and there, but overall cleaned up nice for an AIO.

If it were going to be banned, I guess it only makes sense it would start in CA. I'm no scientist or environmentalist, but I don't see there being much extra work that an A/C needs to do cool down/keep cool a darker color. What's next, you can't roll down your window while in motion to eliminate drag? :)

yeah I got the XP from autogeek with 7 pads.... 2 orange, 2 white, 1 gray and 2 red.... gonna use some OTC megs though.... probably start with ultimate compound, Swirl X, ultimate polish then some NXT 2.0.... just need it to be warmer then 30s... also bought a clay bar and gonna see how well everything turns out...
