I have this really odd drone coming from eaither the motor or transmission (however I believe its the motor)..

When the truck idles for 10 or so minutes, and you press the gas a bit, this LOUD drone starts, but goes away once you give it a little more. Also, when it starts this drone, the rpms seem to go to about 2000, or so, and when you press the gas to make it stop, it returns to normal.

Here is a a very short recording, and unfortunately, it is kinda soft sounding, but I assure you, its loud as hell. It almost sounds like a bad ground type of sound, only way louder..

What is this and how do I fix it? lol

Thanks in advance.

Casket, odds are, what you are hearing is the exhaust touching the heat shields under the front seats. What you need to do is to crawl under the truck and move the heat shields a little bit. See if the noise changes/goes away.

On a side note, did you recently have any exhaust work done? We have noticed that installing certain mufflers will cause a drone inside of the truck.

What part of Maryland are you in? I'm in the southern tip down near California, MD (hour south of DC). If you are in the area and need a helping hand, let me know.

Listen closer to the sound clip I posted. It is intermittent when it happens and does NOT sound metallic. It is also not an exhaust drone. Think a LOUD deep hum.

To me your clip sounds like a medium pitch hummmmmm right from the beginning and then you rev the engine. Is that about right?
If so that could be an idler bearing, alternator, AC or some other small bearing. Could be lots of things actually. Try a stethoscope and see if you can find the source.

its some kinda vibration, coming from the intake side. The intake itself is seemingly where it is coming from.. It has an aftermarket, K&N intake on it. If the intake is causing this, anyone wanna trade for a stock one? LOL
