Yeah its been a while since ive been on the forum but anyway.

SO i start changing the oil today around 4:00pm. Got the oil drained and made a big mess but yeah got the old shit out.
Go to take the filter off and she's a B*tch to turn... but then it turns and turns and turns and wont come off or tighten back on.
Thinking the outside of the filter has seperated from the inner structure of the filter... SO i drove a screwdriver through it and nothing. Still spins.
SO i took a pair of tinsnips to it to hopefully get to something I could manipulate with channel locks, a c-clamp, or anything!

Still NOTHING!!!

The filter's destroyed which dosent matter because the first thing i tried to do when I realized it was stripped or F'ed in what everis wrong was to try and tighten the filter and put it back on so i could drive it to a shop.

Now i have a 6000lb oil dripping yard ornament!

I've never seen an oil filter come apart internally. I suppose if the filters have been way over tightened, year after year, then the threads of the mount could get stripped (again, never seen this) causing the filter to just spin.

I think that you need to peel away everything except for the flange of the filter, that will get you access to the mounting "pipe". You may be able to get a pipe wrench on it, and spin it off. I assume that you'll need to get a new part from the dealer.

Post whatever you find out about the problem. I'm curious what's wrong. Sounds like a freak thing.

I've heard of this happening with older vehicles with very high mileage as the filters are changed more often, but never with a newer then 1990.

ive been doing some reading on the topic and found that this can happen if the filter isn't lubed prior to installation. Also that using a wrench for re-install (as opposed to hand tight) could cause this to happen.

Either way.... I changed the oil last so I cant really blame Ford or Who ever makes the filter (pretty sure its a FRAM)

i always hand tighten then do about a quarter turn with a wrench honestly because i normally have a little oil residue on my hands so i cant grip it as good.

it happens, if you rip the filter up enouhg you should be able to get to the base and work on that. If its the actual screw (pipe) on the engine you may have issues. Most engines have bolt on kits that will move the filter or change the type you use (gm to Ford, ford to GM etc..) if you get it off that may be your best bet. Some engines the place you screw the filter on is asctully a plate with two or more bolts so it can be changed out.
