ok, while my expedition has been VERY reliable, it did suffer one problem that many mod motors suffer from and that is the #3 plug getting blown outta the motor because it was never threaded enough from the factory and once you chage the plugs it is likely that this will happen on any mustang or expedition (mine is the 5.4L)

Anyway, this happened about 10 months ago and the repair shop fixed it for a few hundred bucks, BUT it just happened again and this time they say they have to take the head off and can only do that by removing the ngine. This is all under warranty so nobody is trying to rip me off, it costs me nothing. But does this seem reasonable or true? Basically, if this had happened to me 2.5 months from now I would have to pay to remove my whole engine because of one spark plug? Seriously? I remember getting rid of my '96 trans am (boo, hiss, yuck) mostly because of the repair costs and the fear of having an engine half under the dash.....but while I'm no mechanic, it seems that the whole engine is pretty accesible from the top on these expys...thoughts?

It sure would seem prudent to put in a set of the Full Torque inserts if you were going to go through all that trouble of dropping the motor. (Although the TimeSert and HeliCoil inserts are pretty popular, Full Torque are the only ones approved by Ford) I believe that they also tell you to use a different spark plug once the inserts are in to keep from having any further issues.

thnks. I'll check and see if that's what they are using. I'm scheduled to get it back tomorrow after a two week repair so hopefully it isn't too late but again, I'll check. Thanks again
