Well, I DID 'mount' the winch after the pic...but not in a way that's work-safe to show....still trying to get the rope burns off my...nevermind.

Ordered a safety thimble today - got this kind...

Winch arrived last night.

Make sure the shackle you get to go with that snatch block is rated at least twice what the winch is rated for.

That's the whole point of the snatch block after all, to double the pulling power of the winch. So if you put a standard, commonly available 3/4" shackle on there it could easily get pulled apart - and impressively so.

All typical 3/4" shackles I've seen are only rated 4.5 T == 9,000 lb, already under-rated for your winch on a straight pull.

On that note, you may want to double check the pull rating on the snatch block, I would not want to see that come apart on you either...

It's impossible to fine even 12k lbs 3/4" d-rings.

Closest I`ve found are the Warn `premium` shackles.

Still only rated at 18k lbs, ¸but 9 ton is a heck of a lot better than 4.5...

Of course, nothing stopping a guy using something larger than .75 inch shackle either. Indeed, makes it easier to get both ends of those big nylon straps in there.

Hmmmm, here`s one...

Well - keep in mind, that doesn't say the shackle is GOOD for 18k lbs pulling...it says it's good for 18k lbs winches and under. That's slightly different.

I can't use a larger shackle because the thimble fits 3/4". As the shackle increases in size, so does the Pin.

Something to keep in mind, too - the effective pulling power of the winch is dynamic. As the rope winds, the pulling power reduces.
