Been searching high and low for an answer but have gotten nowhere.
98 expedition, rear portion of the overhead console has come loose and it vibrates and rattles while driving. I cannot figure what has come loose and worse how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a broken switch in my dome light

I think from what I've been able to read in the shop manual.. There is 1 screw
in the overhead sunglass stash… Remove the screw and there are 3 spring clips holding the unit up.. pull down from the front of the console ( message center side ) it SHOULD just pull down at this point… then there are 2 or 3 electrical connectors up there.. BUT It could be as simple as tightening the screw….

Thanks Mike.
I took another look. Where the sunglass keeper is there certainly looks to be a space for where a screw goes but after fishing around I ran into a dead end. No screw and no hole to screw into. The rear portion of the console is hanging down about 1/2 inch or less. I can get my fingers inside the console through the gap but am lost as to how its attached. I can't quite get an eye on it so its all by feel.

you may want to remove it so you can get a better look as to how it was fastened in the first place Also you may want to make a bracket the you can use to lay in the headliner and try to screw the console to it.

Look at the following Fleay bay items
221251170610 for en exploded diagram
221348410342 5th pix is the underside of the console assy. there are two spring clips at the front map light and 1 at the rear… these push straight up.
151246451438 Is the bracket the white nylon oval insert is what the screw grabs and the oval slots are what the spring clips snap into.

You might have a broken tab (( no spring clip)) at the rear… Check it out..
