All,

I'm in the shopping process, and we've come across an '08 EL Ltd that we like quite a bit. Perusing this and other forums, I've come across the paint issue. I went back and looked a little closer this afternoon, and the truck I've been looking at has a quarter sized bubbling on the hood, right near the edge, and a small sized bubble (dime-nickel) on the rear hatch.

I'm assuming trucks w/ bubbling issues either have them or they don't. Do you think the presence of a couple small bubbles on a 4 yr old truck is a bad sign? I don't want to buy something only to have to fix it in the near future!

Yes, I think bubbles on a 4 yold truck is a bad thing and as you discovered is a chief complaint and discussion for class action law suits.

There are just the 2 bubbles you know about, so unless you're willing to repaint the rig I would walk away.

Walk away knowing you made a sound decision. That's how dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Yea I'd probably walk away too, unless they repaint those panels, or knock another thousand or so off the price.

I have/had the bubbling paint, and if it were me, I would either have them fix it, lower the price to reflect future cost to repaint, or walk away.
A friend who works in a body shop said he sees quite a few Fords come in with this and even properly prepped, it can come back after a repaint.
