Painting Rims

So I am currently attending college, and therefore cash is a little tight. I don't really have any extra cash to buy all new rims, so I was looking to maybe try and paint the ones I have. They are the stock 16 inch chrome steels, and I would like to get them black if possible. If anyone has tried this, or has some advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Use Plasti Dip, 2 cans and you will be golden. $5 bucks a can. Look at my wheels that is what I used. Gives a matte finish, but when I want a shiny look I put tire gel and then you are shiny for a while,

ironically i bought three cans today off advice from another site. you guys have a how-to for dipping the wheels? take them off or just tape them?

I kept mine on, and just masked, but in hindsight, I should have taken them off. It's a lot easier off, but less work on. No jacks needed etc., but lots of masking. I left my lugs chrome and that required masking. But i'm gonna go get something that will just fit over them and pull off easily, for when and if I do touch ups.

fine. leave me out of this. i painted my rims. but it seems the more and more i log on here the more and more plastidip is the winner. and if you dont like it let it dry and you can peel it right off.

I don't know if Plasti-dip is the end all, be all answer. However, bedliner, krylon, powder coating are all "permanent". Plasti-dip can be peeled off like latex body paint as soon as it dries if you don't like it.

my lower valance is rustoleum bedliner and its holding well... so when I do the tan gonna bedline and clear coat it

Has anyone used Plasti Dip in a cold environment? I live in MN and am curious how it holds up during the winters. Probably will use it anyways, but just curious if anyone has had experience

I actually even applied the plasti dipped on my rims when it was below freezing out. The stuff has stood up on my Expy all year from -40* to +30*.

Well I started my project today. Only could get two rims completed due to limited time, but one thing i discovered is that when doing it in cold weather, make sure the cans are warmed when not in use! I had an interesting time using the Dip after it had been sitting in my truck overnight. But it worked just fine after soaking the cans in some warm water for 5 minutes. Thanks for all the help, I like how they are looking so far!

Oh yeah. You can use it when it's cold out. Just don't use it when the PlastiDip is cold. It comes out in chunks. But don't worry, it will dry smooth if you had a mishap.
