the cortex has gas saver setting so im guessing the flashpaq does as well

According to the guys over at SuperChips, the Flashpaq and Cortex are the exact same thing, except the looks and the fact that the Cortex comes with a 2-year powertrain warranty. The warranty is what makes the Cortex more expensive.
The electronics and preset tunes are 100% the same between the two devices.

@talls: thanks for answering my question about disconnecting the device.

I'll let you all know how I like it after a few tanks. It's already been shipped and I should receive it these days.
Hope the Flashpaq, K&N filter and Gotts mod combined can give me at least 3 MPGs.
I'll also be looking into a more unrestrictive muffler and maybe removing some weight... oh, and taking the time to change my tires back to summers would help too. It's April for Christ's sake! :D

Finally got the Flashpaq and managed to reprogram the truck tonite. (to the mileage xs tune).
Had a panic moment right after I programmed it as the truck wouldn't start anymore. (starter turned but engine didn't start). I went inside for dinner and then came back planning to reflash the truck to the stock file, but decided to try starting it again before. Lo and behold it started! Dunno wtf happened.

Anyway i took a drive around the block with the new mileage tune and indeed the truck felt a little more tame. Shift points seemed more firm too. Overall I liked the feeling. Got a 60mi drive tomorrow and i'll reset the trip mileage log to see if it records better fuel economy. I'm taking a longer trip in may (2x450 miles) and i'll get more reliable data then.

Sounds like you are having the dreaded expedition no start problem. It may have been 100% coincidental tht it happened when you put a tuner on it.

Shit, hope that's not it :)
When the truck refused to start after 3 tries my first thought was that the new tune might have messed up the anti-theft chip (dunno if it's stock or aftermarket).
But then 30 min later it started on the first try. This morning too. Dunno wtf is going on.

Is there a known cause to the expy no-start issue you mentioned?

A few of us have tried figuring it out. Could be just about anything. Someone replace the fuel pump and said it temporarily fixed it, some say coils and plugs, etc

Interesting. Hope I don't run into that. I've got a service appoitment next week and i'll return the tune to stock before. I'll see if this issue happens again when I reprogram it after the appointment.

Ok so I took her for a 60mile highway ride to test the fuel economy tune. The truck feels a bit lazier accelerating from a full stop but I found it very responsive when accelerating to pass on the highway. It feels like it now allows me finer control of the gas pedal.

Got about 3.1 mpg better than before under the same conditions (going 70mph, cold engine, winter tires, a bit of stop&go traffic). That amounts to about 80 more miles per tank or about 20$ savings per tank given the current gas prices in Montreal.
Not bad. I'll get better data on the 900 mile trip i'll take in two weeks.
