I have a 98 expedition with the 4.6L. It has a blown head gasket and I don't know if the block is cracked or not. The #1 plug fouls with antifreeze so it only runs on 7 cylinders and tends to over heat.

I have looked at getting a replacement motor. I have read that the Ford garages pull the body off the truck to remove the motor. Is this a requirement or can it be done without lifting the body?

Thanks

You do not have to remove the body. Hood and fan shroud are usually necessary, along with removal of the bolts from the tranny. Taking as much off the block wouldn't be a bad idea as that would just make it easier to judge if it would hit on the way out of the engine bay.

You don't have to pull the body to get the motor out, it's only on the Powerstroke diesels in the Super Dutys that they have to lift off the cab.
