I've owned several rental Fords and never had unusual problems. Sometimes you can get the maintenance records too. The prices were so cheap I couldn't go wrong.

Good to here that sir. I appreciate your input. I have a 07 expy but believe I need to trade up. Don’t want to be 1000 miles from home with a 11 yr old vehicle. I have rented countless Expedition s over the years and loved them all. Thanks!!

I bought a 2016 XLT with 46k back in March. It was an Enterprise owned truck and has all the oil change stickers on the inside of the door.
I doubt the truck ever had an alignment judging by tire wear.

All my issues appeared to be cosmetic and the dealer I purchased from remedied them. Including new tires, drivers headlight, rear windshield, paint touch up, and new passenger airbag.

I gave $25,800 with the only option being a moonroof. It also came with a lifetime powertrain warranty.

I have never purchased a vehicle that had more than an average of 12k miles a year before this one. Though I figured the powertrain warranty would cover any major thing that may arrise.

I’ll likely be shopping for another ex rental come spring as the wife likes it so much she wants to get rid of her Highlander.

Thank you so much. Nice to know! I looked at a trk today that was Bronze Fire as it’s the color of the one I bought. It looks rich so I till mine gets here the jury is still out on color but I am getting more comfortable about the rental vehicle s when I hear from people like yourself. Thanks!!

Thank you for that. How do I track down the registered owner by the vin?
You can't directly find who owned the car without asking the state where it was titled (they'll tell you no) or hiring a private investigator. So, we're left with sleuthing for ourselves. This is not an exact science, but follow this:

At random, I picked a 2017 Expy and ran the CarFax (for free at the dealer who is currently selling it), and came up with this:
https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHisto...374&compCode=kj+h3NPvh83Y4ZCGjvUEsVboEsf5qf7E

Scroll to the Details section and we find it was first titled by the FL DMV in Oct 2016, to an entity addressed in Tulsa OK. That was renewed in Mar 2017. Then we see it was serviced at Walls Ford in Salisbury, MA in Feb 2018, with no entry for a new MA title or registration. So, we know the car has FL tags, and is owned by someone in OK, and the vehicle was in MA for service, twice, 14 days apart (small mileage difference at time of service). The first service was for an oil leak, and the next appears to be a regular service. Then we see it was yet again renewed with FL tags by someone in OK. Then it appears for sale in Richmond, VA.

So the original owner is located in Tulsa, OK. A quick google reveals that car rental companies have or had a large presence in Tulsa, and at least one (Hertz) is HQ'd in FL.

Lets add it up: FL tags, ownership addressed in OK, physically located in MA and now up for sale in VA. The vehicle was in service for 18 months before being sent to auction. All this just reeks "RENTAL CAR".

For a leased vehicle, I would expect the tags/title and service records to be from the same state, or from bordering states (to include folks who live near a state border and shop 'over there')

I would say, with high confidence, that this example vehicle was a rental.

Not FBI-level sleuthing, but gives a clue.

Awesome explanation sir! I ran the fax on this one and says lease, fleet. Colorado till sold at auction in Tennessee. The dealer bought 11 vehicles there. So if there’s no service, repairs etc listed I would presume the fleet company does the service? This was a ford sale. Apparently many vehicles get shipped there for auction.

Dont quote me, but I heard there was a major reason car dealers tend to congregate in FL and cars with FL tags abound, and that's that Florida has some wacky dealer-protecting anti-consumer laws on the books...

That and taxes.

As for how I figured out who owned mine I just looked at the insurance card left in the Glove Box.

My 2009 was a lease/fleet vehicle in Texas when I bought it in 2014 for $15K. It now has 120 Kmiles on the clock and it still drives like a new one.

Ours was a rental. Purchased through Enterprise Sales. 28K on the odometer. HD tow pkg. I found a small stain on the carpeting and they replaced every square inch. Also replaced windshield...small bullseye. Very happy. After 28K all bugs pretty much worked out.
