I have an 05 expedition. I would like to get a magnaflow exhaust and an airaid intake with my tax return. My question is will adding the airaid intake require a tuner. Will it cause the lean situation. Second I do plan to get a tuner later. I have read that the tuners with "canned tunes" won't work with an intake that requires a tuner. If I have to get a tuner what tuner do you recommend that will work with the airaid intake and exhaust as well. I have searched what I am asking to death on multiple forums but haven't got a good clear answer to my question.

whats going on...no the truck doesnt require a tune to add an intake...i had my K&N on well for a while and just got my programmer in summer 2010...canned tunes will work with an CAI (cold air intake...airaid) the only problem you'll encounter is that not all canned tunes take in account that you do/do not have a CAI...i have superchips and they dont...i've called them and theres no programming on their end to take my CAI into consideration....but there may be others that do...when you do buy your programmer...dont buy a canned tuned...get a custom tunned programmer that will really open your truck up down to the trans for exactly what you want out of it...be it HP or MPGs...custom is the way to go...

same price as a canned tuned so you might as well...

I've basically done a mod per year of ownership. Mine rolled off the lot in Nov 07 and went right into the muffler shop for the MagnaFlow exhaust. Ran around with just the muffler for well over a year. Boredome set in around year 2, and I threw a K&N intake onto it. No issues with those 2 mods working together or causing me any problems. Had a little extra cash in year 3 so I grabbed the HyperTech Max Energy and loaded it in. All three work together just fine and have never had issues with the talked about "lean condition". Yeah, it's a canned tune, but it does what I want/need.

I see yours is an 04. If I remember correctly its the 3 valves that have more trouble with cai than the 2 valves. I was thinking maybe something like the xcalibrator or something like that. On the custom tunes how do you get your tunes. I'm under the impression that you get them emailed or download them from somewhere like Troyer. I have also emailed Troyer twice to see if they have a stage one upgrade for my expedition cause they only have the 3v package listed for f150s, never got a response. I wanted to go that route cause they use airaid and magnaflow.

03-04 2v, 05+ 3v. on my 03 ive had a catback and a k&n cai on it early 2006. bought late 2005. never had a problem without a tuner. i just got a used superchips 1815 flashpaq last year. have it on gas saver xs mode right now. as far as custom tunes, you can get them sent to you or you can get one done for you on a dyno. you can find local shops that do a custom dyno tune.

Ok I'll give it a try without a tuner. And when I get one as long as I can get tunes over the net that's fine. There isn't any tuners with a dyno close to me. Thanks for all the help.

I have been looking at the sct 8900 xtreme. I read that their canned tunes has a cai option, and also has the ability for custom tunes. I have seen on some other forums that a few people are having problems with this tuner on their powerstrokes. Does anyone on here have any experience or opinions on this tuner. I'm pretty sure this is the one I will get as long as the reviews for gas engines look pretty good.
