Hi, I just switched out the 8.8 rear in my 2000 to the 9 3/4 rear. Since the reluctor ring is bigger in the new rear diff, my ABS has faulted and now is inoperative. Is there a way to recalibrate the system to accept the bigger reluctor?

Are you sure that the abs speed sensor itself is ok? I wouldn't trust the one that came on the new (used) donor axle.

I'm fairly certain that it is okay. I drove the donor and it's ABS light wasn't on. That doesn't mean that it was damaged during the change though. Any idea if the 8.8 sensor will fit in the 9 3/4? Has anyone done this swap?

is it possibly that when you reconnected that a pin came loose or the connector isn't making good contact. Recheck your connections

Thanks for the thread. It actually looks like i am SOL as far as the ABS goes. I can reflash for a ratio change but not a ring gear size change. I'm getting the impression that the 8.8 is superior than the 9 3/4, is that correct?

The ring and pinion gear ratio change can be calibrated with a programmer, but it looks like the only way to make the change for the tone ring difference is to send the ecu out to a place like 150tunes.com. Yukon gear makes replacement tone rings, so they may be able to tell you how many teeth the 9.75 has compared to the 8.8. The tuning place will need that info.

The 8.8 is pretty weak compared to the 9.75.

If you can get the front suspension from the donor then an "upgrade" would be possible keeping the abs system happy. Might be as simple as swapping the spindles, rotors etc.

What year did the larger rear end come from?

The front tone rings are the same regardless of whether you have the 8.8 or the 9.75 rear ends. The difference is the hard-coded info in the ecu.
