Remote Start Price Question

I have an appointment next week to have a remote start installed in my 2008 Eddie Bauer. I am having it installed at a Ford dealership, but the unit is not a Ford unit.

They are going to charge me $289 plus tax. I am going to have seperate key fobs for the starter and door locks, which I don't mind. (They wanted and extra $100 to use a single key fob.)

I do all sorts of aftermarket lighting (emregency lights and sirens, etc.) and stereos, but I don't want to mess with the ignition or alarm system. And I don't want to mess with anything that would void my ESP coverage.

Is this a good price?

I know best buy can do it but Im not sure about it voiding your coverage. I would talk to the dealership and see if they can do both for $200 which would be pretty fair. I think best buy can do it for like $150+ tax and not including any extra parts you may need. Just talk to the dealership and try an negotiate with them. Also if your concerned with your coverage being void just call an ask them an look over your contract with them. Most times your coverage is only void if something that brakes or fails is related to what was changed. THat is only in most cases tough. Also try a local car audio shop they tend to be pretty fair as well. Also on a side not what Fire house are your with? My father use to be with Milton FD.

I probably could negotiate with them, and will try next week befoire I sign off on the install. But it is being installed at a dealership and their labor rates are alwys higher than a local audio store. But they do have "factory trained" technicians.

I have been on the Wilmington Fire Department or over 25 years.

I also volunteer with the regional rescue squad - Deerfield Valley Rescue.

Better verify those prices. As far as I know, all the Expeditions since 98 have a security key and need a bypass in order to use a remote start function. You can find them online for around $25 but not likely anyone will pass those savings on to you. I think when I called around, they wanted almost another $75 in addition to the install and remote start kit.

Maybe your prices include the bypass but I'd rather ask now and not get a surprise on my bill when I went to pick it up.

ford has a remote start/alarm factory setup...i plan on getting it as soon as i can raise $500...thats including install...send pm if you want the part number...i think i still have it

The Ford one is nice. I had it on my ranger. I had it installed at the dealer and that was like $100 for the labor. And let me say this. When the instructions say a 500ft transmiter distance, they weren't kidding.

UPDATE:

I had the remote start system installed yesterday afternoon. Took the installer about 2.5 hours total.

The total price was just over $300 with Massachusetts sales tax (they tax everything in Mass!). $189 for stater, and $100 labor.

Works great. But then again, I only had it installed yesterday. The wife will be thrilled to get in a warm truck on a cold mornng, if we ever gat those agian.
