Does anyone know how to remove the plastic step inserts on the side step bars of an XLT Sport? I am looking to sand and repaint them but can't see where these inserts come out.

Haven't been anywhere, I've just been busy with my mustang and waverunner stuff. In the middle of starting to work on the car and get it ready to handle the new boost levels. How have you been?

I started noticing that my step bars were rusting from when I get out of the water and step onto them with saltwater on my water shoes, so I want to sand them down and paint them.

Yeah we were outside when you were going back, Lola was loving it

When I am out there, I pretty much have tunnel vision when I am going 70+ mph.. I probably saw you and figured you were just one of the residents watching me doing a flyby..

since no one really came out right and SAID IT, i tested it out and found that if you have the actual step bar syle runner boards, the plastic insert litterealy pops out. mind you that if yours are old or have heavy rust, they the tabs might break off from getting brittal as some of mine did. what i found that was helpful and broke less tabs was using a small pry bar instead of a regular flat tip screw driver. it helps get up under and give more control on the pressure you put on the plastic. if the tabs pop off make sure you save them if they didnt fall in the bar so you can glue them on some how. im using hot glue myself. from looking at it, try not to break the outter edge tabs so you have outter edge integerty when you snap it back down on the bar. id image since those see some side to side forces like wind and the ocassional mis-step they need to be saved to secrue it proper without having a repaired tab as hopfully hangin on to it. just my thoughts. its either that or glue the whole thing back on lol
