2015 Expedition with 3.5 ecoboost. The car is showing a p0299 code. Dealer says it needs these repairs.
Replace turbo with all connecting lines and hardware $2,723.16.
Replace fuel pump assembly $1,110.18
Also not related to the engine code replace ac evaporator $2,430.86.
There are other charges but these are the main ones coming to total of over $9k.
I felt uneasy with these charges but became angry when the cost of an oil and filter change
is $341.16.
Other work needed to be done is vacuum pump $87.25, replace valve cover gaskets $1,320.29 along with
coolant flush flush and change and charge ac system.
Does all this seem extreme? Should I only do what is necessary on a car I'm wanting to sell? Thanks

Sounds like the dealer is using the parts canon / highest profit approach to solving your problem, INSTEAD OF DOING THEIR JOB AND PROPERLY DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, this proper diagnosis would of course include a reasonable diagnostic fee.

What is your AC issue that the dealer is suggesting changing the evaporator, which does require dash removal and replacement, which is expensive.

The PO299 Code could possibly be
Air Filter - probably not but cheap to try.
One of the wastegates.
Turbo bypass solenoid.
Turbo blowoff valve.
Leak in any of the turbo high pressure plumbing from either turbo through the intercooler and to the engine throttle body.

With regard to the oil change, that is an indication of the ripoff being attempted. We usually do our own maintenance, but sometimes have our dealer change the oil when we are in FL. A full synthetic oil change with filter is approximately $115 - $125. Last time we did this at dealer was 12/24, so price may have changed some, but not tripled.

Maybe other members on here can suggest an honest repair shop or dealer that they have had good experiences with in your specific area.

Here is a decent diag process for the PO299 code. Done on F150 but same 3.5 T/T. Start at 1:30

If I were here, you would know it !
And with trying to sneak in an absurdly overpriced $341 oil change, my responses would be along these lines:

BMA/FU/SMD, "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya", or "only in your wildest friggin dreams"....D

The most I've ever paid for a full-synth oil & filter change on my '011 was ~$69 at my local shop, where I've been buying & servicing my vehicles for over 10 years....

But I know the local stealerships in my area charge ~$150 :(

I have never, repeat never had a dealer or oil change place change my oil. 75 years old and I still change oil/filters in my vehicles. Cost me around $35 for wifes Subi and $40 for previous Ranger and now my Expy....using full synthetic and factory filters......and I know it's done RIGHT !!!

Don’t disagree Grumpy, but the poster is looking for advice on the cost for major repairs and the oil change cost is used as a reference by him to see if the dealer prices were fair, which obviously they are not.

Oh, I totally understand....that's where dealers make their money.....
Just went thru similar for maintaince I couldn't do, a simple coolant flush and new thermostat....$550 total for $100 bucks of parts/fluid and the rest labor.
Outrageous but independent garage quoted more for using aftermarket parts.....stuck between a rock and a hard place...

Well, my local shop did the full coolant power flush, plus a cleaner solution & then a 2nd reflush, then new coolant & thermo for $125, but I supplied the coolant & thermo....

Just had evaporator replaced in my 2015 EL Limited. Didn't want to deal with the whole dash removal thing. Found a local shop that did it for $1300. Dropped the truck off and had it back next day.

What issues were you having? I'm not sure but I think mines may be leaking. The last week or so it worked, I would smell a little refrigerant in the cabin for a few seconds then it would go away. I haven't bothered finding a leak yet but was just thinking the worst with the evaporator core.
