replaced solenoid just clicks

i have a 2001 5.4 expedition i replaced the starter solenoid on the firewall and it just clicks i have tried jumping it with a wire but no luck i checked all the connection on the starter and to the battery they are all good im hoping some one can lead me in the direction of why my solenoid is clicking and my truck wont start

Check if your battery is fully charged, you should have about 12.4-12.6 with the engine OFF. You can test the starter solenoid you installed by jumping the 2 ends. I usually do this by putting a pliers on each end. If it still clicks, I would guess your starter. I had the same problem where it just clicked, but only did it when the temp was below 30 degrees. It ended up being the other solenoid that is on the starter, so i replaced the entire starter, and the problem was solved. When that happened, I was able to hook jumper cables to the battery, and touch the positive cable to the positive lead on the starter and it would turn over.

Turned out to be the starter solenoid. Buddy of mine who worked for Ford dealer told me more than one click = battery(charging issue). One click = ignition or starting issue. Replaced the entire starting unit and problem solved. Thanks everyone for their input.
