Should I be concerned about breaking the plugs in the 5.4l engine? I have heard that the 2003 are not affected by the plug breaking and I have heard they are. I am going to soak them in WD40 overnight before the change and also going to replace all 8 coils. I found the coils on Amazon for $69 for ALL 8. Plugs I am going with Bosch.

You wont have a problem with plugs breaking in 2003. I personally wouldn't use Bosch in a Ford. I would only use motorcaft or autolite plugs.

I would agree, I've got Motorcraft in my truck and Autolites in the 460 boat. No problems here. I have not heard the same regarding Bosch plugs. You are always at risk of breaking a plug, but that model year does not have the goofy ones that come out in 3 pieces if that is what you mean. That was around 06 that they put those in.

What brand are the coils? Some here have gotten certain brands such as Grannatelli online and not had good experiences. Just remember you are probably getting what you pay for, so you may have to order extras if some fail prematurely.

I would still recommend MSD, Accel, or Performance Distributors SOS coils for aftermarket coils. For normal performance go with Motorcraft.

OK I just replaced 1 plug and 1 COP (with my Bosch plug and cheap COP) on the #5 cylinder (easiest to get to btw) which was the one registering a misfire and the Expedition seems to be driving much better. I did not detect any stumbling at all on my 5 miles test drive. Hopefully that got it! I hate to just do 1 plug but these cars are ridiculous at how hard it is to get to them.

I have used the bosch platinum plugs before because they were on sale. They were not to bad, lasted around 20,000. I returned to motorcraft, longer lasting...
