rough idle, and car wants to die

I have a 97 expedition with the 5.4 and about 75K miles.

a tune up was done a few months ago and everything seemed fine, but now the check engine light is on and the car feels like it is going to die and it actually does at times. I think it may be a misfire or missing ignition issue. But i am not sure so that is why i ask for you help before i send it off to the expensive mechanics.

anyone recommend a good mechanic in San Jose/Santa Clara (CA) area?

fuel filter has been replaced

pcv tube on the very very rear of the intake.(only if it smooths out once you give it some throttle)

otherwise, could be a coil pack miss

Could be the IAC. Does it stay running with your foot on the gas?

Since the light is on, go to an autoparts store and get the code read. That'll certainly help you in your problem searching.
