Rumble strip noise

Just bought a 2018 XLT 2WD with 24k miles. Feels like driving over rumble strips. I have felt this a few times. Once at about 45, at about 60 and once at 75-80. Each time was at a constant speed. Anyone else had this issue and any ideas what this might be?

I have the lane departure turned off, this feels more like drivetrain related. When it happens, it only lasts a few seconds.

I had this same issue this July. Took it into Ford service, they DIAG a bad driver-side wheel-hub assembly. That part was on back order for 2 months, but once installed (warranty covered) the rumble strip vibration is completely gone to date at all speeds.

Others on here had similar issue but it was their vacuum line that pulls the front hubs into locked mode for front wheel drive. Since you have 2WD its most likely one of your wheel-hubs/bearings. YMMV!

It does kinda feel like it’s on the drivers side somewhere. It only lasts for a few seconds and it’s hard to duplicate.

^Exactly! I had the same issue, only felt it on the DS when at 40+ MPH & taking a slight curve.

Thanks, I’ll make a service appointment and have them check the wheel bearings. It helps if you tell them what to check. If they can’t duplicate it, they just blow it off.

I am afraid these can’t be the IWE since the OP’s is a 2WD.

Based on my experience (which is very limited ), a main cause of a rumble strip sensation (in any car) is a bad torque converter in the transmission.

What you are feeling is probably torque converter shudder. I hope I am wrong.

Well, I feel like a big dummy. In my original posts, I did not describe this quite right. It was a vibration, not a noise. This is the wife’s vehicle and I had not driven it much. But we got to take her on a road trip and I was determined to make some sense out of what was going on. Turns out, sjwelds was right. The lane departure was vibrating the steering wheel. I thought I had it completely turned it off, but it only has 3 settings. Alert, Assist and both. It was set to Alert, which it did. Glad there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, but feel pretty stupid. Thanks for your help.

I'm not as familiar with the '18s, but could it be misfiring? Does it do it under load? How's the idle? I know you said it's hard to duplicate, but were there any conditions that were the same during each occurence (wet weather, AC/Heater on, cruise control on, etc.)?
