running board lights

on each end of running boards theres a light that turns on when doors open.....on mine it doesnt go on............another thing,theres a DIAL,dimmer on light switch to dimm the dash lights......mine dimms but when u turn ALL THE WAY....isnt it suppose to "click"....and interior light(over head) goes on. i feel the click but no light....nothing. check fuse under hood,bulbs are good....tried a test lamp on running boards...seems like no power...with doors OPEN. this light goes ON when u open any door.

When I got my truck the running board lights didn't work either. Turns out that the sockets were corroded and needed to be cleaned with some WD40 and a small file. I replaced the bulbs with white led 194 units from Advance auto parts. They aren't as brite as the 194 bulbs that I got from superbrightleds.com, but they were sealed units that should stand up to the weather better than the pc board type of lamps.

I almost forgot, you will probably need to hit the "Help" section of the auto parts store to replace the plastic stud fasteners that hold the light covers on, it's hard to remove them without mangling them.
