Last week I replaced the shift tube assembly in my 2001 expedition XLT 4x4. The reason I replaced it is because it broke in half in the steering column cause it wasn't going into park and I was having to force the shifter to park by slamming it over and over agin into park until it finally engaged in gear. I know that alot of people are going to tell me about the torx screws that come loose over time but that is seriously not the issue here. After replacing the shift tube the shifter still has to be forced over and over again until it finally engages into park and now the key is stuck in the ignition now. I can start and turn off the ingnition just fine but the key will not come out. I think the key not coming out has to do with the shifter not going completely into park. Has anybody else experienced this and if so can you give me any ideas on a fix for this problem. Thanks.

Does the shift indicator seem to line up on the dash? I had the same problem, my 98 not going into park and not starting in park. My issue WAS loose screws. BUT, one of the videos I watched mentioned an adjustment wheel that aligns the indicator. If yours is out of adjustment could that be what's making it hard to get into park?

Not sure if this will help, but ya never know.
