Hello all. I have a 2019 expedition. I’ve been trying to figure out how to shift the vehicle into neutral without starting the engine. In my other car, one simply holds down the push button start until the dash lights up, and then shift to neutral without starting is enabled.

The ford manual has a complex process of holding down both pedals, which allows me to switch to neutral using the selector, but it flashes and goes back to the park setting.

thanks in advance for your input.

I assume you read this process in the manual, although it is for a dead battery situation:

If your battery is functional, try pushing the start button twice (with the key fob in the vehicle) WITHOUT pushing the brake. That will start the vehicle's electrical systems and I think allow you to shift into neutral.

Why are you trying to do this?

I used to do this all the time in the AM when I left for work... my daughter's room was directly above our garage and I left at 5am. We had the belt garage door openers (very quiet) and I used to push my car in to the driveway before starting lol.

I ask because there's a procedure to put the vehicle into neutral with the engine off, but it's for 4 wheel down / flat-towing.

It sounds like for your use it would be overkill, but I'm not sure what OP wants to acheive.

Yeah, luckily I don't do all that anymore, this was as a previous residence lol. That's a good point though, I hadn't thought about using it for loading my trailer and not wanting to start.
