I’ve got this same problem but close to an inch of play in my 99 first generation which has the gear box, it’s a 4 wheel drive. New inner and outer tie rods, new steering shaft, ball joints are good, holds alignment really well, tightened the gear box a quarter turn, idler and Pittman arm are good, new power steering pump, maybe I should put a new gear box in, but I’m not convinced that’ll do it. It is 23 years old, maybe I just have to accept it. Sure sucks driving tired down the curvy mountain after huntin all day. New f150 basic 55 k 4 wheel drive, don’t wanna do it.
