Crutchfield says that its double din on the exterior in my 97, but drops to single inside the dash, so an aftermarket double din won't fit. I think its because the cool touchscreens and stuff didn't exist in 97, so the dash isn't made to receive it.

Crutchfield is way over priced. try Onlinecarstereo.com - Wholesale Car Audio/Stereo Deals At Bargain Prices whole sale prices. and if you are worried a D-Din wont fit than get a flip-up they work just as good

maybe so...but i will gladly pay for the LIFETIME support they offer and the free manuals/harnesses/and whatever they give...i do like crutchfield to find out what fits and available to find cheaper...BUT i have noticed that when companies like Pioneer are having sales on their products...crutchfield honors those sales...not all websites will do that...i bought my Pioneer AVIC-D3...with bluetooth for $800...at the time of purchase...it was a $1100 unit and the bluetooth wasnt built in like they are now...that was another $200...saved $500

That is true, but so does OCS, on certain HU, Speakers, Amps etc etc... That and they offer extended warranties through OCS. They also normally get exclusive gear crutchfield or others dont get. As far as sales, its whole sale thats about 70% off Retail price. 1100 retail with 70% my math normally sucks but i think 650 to $700.. And thats 24/7 so no need to wait for sales..
It also has a vehicle fit guide, which goes into detail on the system or how to install a zune to OE

I finally have my new unit on the way! I bought an Alpine CDE 136BT. I will let you know how the install goes and how it sounds! Plan to put it in over the weekend!

Yes, the dash does angles down once you pull out the factory unit. If your not affraid to cut, you can get a double din in with ease.
