Maybe change a little at a time? Drop the pan, fill up (should be 5 pts). Run 1000 miles, repeat?

I think that's what I'm going to do with mine. My transmission is not exactly in tip top condition, so I think I'll be doing that to keep it happy :D

I think that fluids do get thin over time. I have heard both ends of this and to be honest I do not pick sides. I think it has a lot more to do with the driver than the fluid. Have you ever dropped a tranny pan? There is a ton of fiber residue and metal shavings. Clog that filter and you can strip those clutches. Another option that I have heard is to drain the fluid in a clean jug, replace the filter and put the same fluid back in there.

was thinking that....mech use same oil to as well. i c it at shop i hang and work at sometimes.(towtruck...pick up cars from auction):p.....anyway....

yes...ive dropped a pan or 2 myself...i c it done in shop, even changing inner parts to use in other fords. its fairly easy cause i c it 2-3 times a week....BUT!...tranny still has chance of not running correct on new fluid.he(owner) says leave it alone...i say "lets change fluid"..of coarse with a charge but...its never much;)

thinking maybe of dropping pan and "yea" save fluid. i always do my own stuff....save every dime.i got merc v fluid,gasket,ect......just very "ify" about it.:D

read some..not alot of storys...shop had 1 trans go bad couple yrs ago after change....was a ford. construction co. he services

Just my personal experience... When I bought my Expy I think the trans fluid had 147k on it. The trans barely made it home shuddered like crazy and didn't shift proper. I dropped the pan changed the filter and what came out of pan and now my trans shifts fine. No more shudder and goes right in gear now. I say change ((some fluid not all.
