Strange switch

It's not well hidden but maybe it's an ignition kill switch from an aftermarket alarm? The old "hidden in plain sight" trick!

I figured out the door code. Thanks! I don't see anything aftermarket in this Expy. I don't see anywhere that something was mounted. I'm not willing to pull the dash. My best guess is an aftermarket alarm that he took with him when he traded in. But why bother with a switch for that?

I once had a friend who added a switch to the handlebars on his crotch rocket. It killed the lights on the back of his bike for those times when he was running away from the Police. He was a piece of work. Stopped riding after his big crash.

Was going to buy a 305 Honda scrambler that had similar. This guy did it easy, he put a toggle switch on the taillight. Probably screw up the fuel injection or something trying to do that today.

Had one in my Porsche. It cut the tail and brake lights.

Why is it on motorcycles? I remember back in the 70's, was riding on a Saturday night here in San Francisco. 4 of us riding are bikes crazy as always, 2 cop cars chasing us towards the steepist hill in SF. Kearny street above Broadway, a 40 percent grade, with steps on the side to walk down.1 block long. We got away, but my friend Dave had an SFPD reach out and missed his shoulder by inches. 2 of us went towards the Broadway tunnel, the other 2 hit the freeway back to Daly City. We were scamps in those days!

Will the trim piece around it not pop out or do you have to do more to pop it out?
Can't you look up behind dash with bright light to see what wires go to it?

Any evidence of add on fog or driving lights? Have you checked to see it it has any affect on the driving lights when the high beams are on?

A lot of people want to be able to have driving lights on WITH high beams and few vehicles allow that.

A lot of people seem to put switches for amp for stereos too.
I don't get that.
Don't all modern amps have a built in switch that turns it on when stereo comes on??

It looks aftermarket to me as well and I think the suggestion that it's for some type of auxiliary lighting is the most likely answer. In the case of my truck, the switch was for a train horn the previous owner had installed.

That switch is aftermarket. I would take a look uneer the dash to see if you can follow the wires running to it.

I'm not sure on the 16 but on all the previous models the door code was labelled under the dash

To get the door code on a later model requires a bit of work. When I bought my 2009 Expy, the previous owner only had one key and didn't know the code. I took the right front kickpanel off and found the fuse panel that is also the "brain" for things like the turn signals. I had to take out the screws holding it to the bulkhead and look on the back. There I found the 4-digit master code. I just use that code now when I want to open the doors although there is a procedure you can use to create your own additional codes. Ace Hardware store cloned me a second key although it can't be used to create any more. If you have both original keys, you can copy more by inserting first one, then the other. Hope this helps.

As others have shown, the door code can be found under the dash, on passenger side. Might be a little tricky to locate, but its there. I had a buddy just buy a used Escape, took it to dealership, and they were trying to charge him an hour labor to "reprogram it." That's just wrong and shady on the dealers part... that's just horrible customer service.

I know what it is. It's an anti tailgate device. I bet if you look under the rear bumper you'll find a device that releases oil or penny nails behind you.

Personally on my Eddie Bauer, I have those gladiator type tire cutters that I got rigged to a 40 amp switch and maxi fuse. Works great trying to get out of Oakland when the natives get restless after a Raiders game.

Well, door code is under control. That toggle switch doesn't do a thing that I can find. It doesn't seem to affect the cabin lights at all. I'm just going to leave it off until something doesn't work. Then I'll turn it on.

Maybe it's for nitrous? Maybe it's an automated system for flipping off other drivers?

It's probably a time-warp
