I checked the plunger, it's not stuck. used forscan to see that BOO1 & BOO2 are out of correspondence. eventually get PCM error code saying brake pedel A/B not matching. Boo1 not always going off-on-off with pedal press while in live mode. Brake lights intermittent also. What do I change out? The little 4-wire switch at the brake pedal or some other module?

Sure sounds like the brake switch not working OK. May be able to spray it with contact cleaner into the plunger and see if it starts working.

mine did the same exact thing. I changed that little blue plunger thing, quarter turn takes it out. I got it online at Advance Auto Parts for around $27. less than 5 min fix.

Thanks guys, confirmed what I thought. Instead of spaying the brake light switch and having it possibly fail again on the road (a liability issue as well), I just replaced it with a new one from FoMoCo. Took the in-law to the ford dealer to get a discount as well; still $48! cough, cough. :yucky:

on my ford focus, the internal starter switch (which is also wired to the brake light switch, and so on) is the faulty culprit which causes the shifter to stay locked in park

the starter switch is behind the metal ignition cylinder you stick your key in
