I like the idea but the new trim will not line up with the old backup lights. Were you planning on changing those out also?

I just did this a while back. 2007 tailgate, taillights, 2017 chrome trim all put on a 2005. 2008 bumper also.

Any mods needed to the 2007 tailgate to install the 2017 trim?

Not really "mods" per se. More like drilling a few holes, and rewiring the license plate bulb sockets. Those are the only thing that is different. I installed a camera too, which is just a pos and ground wire, plus a single shielded video wire ran up front to the radio, nav unit, or the rear view mirror. The new molding has a recess built in for it.

The old chrome trim piece has 4 bolts holding it on. The new chrome piece uses those same 4 holes in the tailgate, but needs 8 new holes drilled for the 8 clips (4/4) for the right and left sides of the molding.

Everything else is all bolt on.
