silly question

whenever we go to a sporting event and tailgate, we leave the
rear tailgate up so we have access to the rear of the vehicle.

problem is the interior lites and the running board lites stay on and never turn off. a couple of times we needed a jump to get to get her started.

is there a way to turn these lights off????

AAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

I CANNOT RESIST!!!

Close the doors!! :p

Okay...*whew* Sometimes I cannot control it... :D

Anyway, yes.

You can add a switch. I did on my Excursion. But your battery-minder feature should turn them off after a pre-set amount of time.

Also, newer style factory switches have an interior light defeat feature integrated in the dimmer switch.

What year is your truck?

I just pull fuse #14 on the interior fuse box. But, adding the switch would be better if you keep the tailgate open often. For me, the fuse thing is simple since I do not leave the gate open very often.

I have a 97 EB. It does have the battery minder on it but it takes over 20 min to work. I cut a switch into mine. It looks factory and was easy to do. The wiring harness is located in the drivers side rear under the rearmost pillar. There isa white wire with a purple stripe on it. I cut mine and spliced a rocker switch into it. I mounted the switch behind the thrid row seat belt on the pillar. It works great! I am a contractor and use my truck on job sites frequently so this comes in handy. The best part of this mod is as follows.... If you forget to flip the switch back your front and rear doors will still turn on your interior lights. This switch will just turn off the switch for the rear glass and the rear hatch. Hope this helps!

I think b_salgado is talking about the box where the rear air is located. If you look for your jack its on the opposite side. Just pop the cover off from the bottom and theres wires on the backside closest to the taillight. I was in there the other day so I'm sure they're on that side like salgado said. Kinda cramped so it might be hard to get at.
