that time...brakes!

so i switched to my summer wheels/tires last week and stupidly did not look at the pads when doing so. 3 days later i started hearing squeeling/ very light grinding. so i got on rock auto ordered myself some HD pads and parked the expy till they came in.

today after work i pulled her in the garage and set to replacing the pads..hoping and praying the rotors were ok. turns out they all are but it was very close! i think another 20 miles and i woulda been buying 2 rotors. thank god i have so many trucks so in a case like this i can park it and wait for the parts to come in.


now i got the truck in 2010 with 63k miles on it, i'm almost at 83k miles and i have not touched the brakes untill today. considering how hard/fast i drive and agressive braking i do i'm very pleased with that. no idea how long before i got the truck the pads had been changed. although it did have alot of new stuff (shocks, tires..more i'm forgetting)

the old pads...wasted!



wiped the truck down, its still not real clean but tryed to clean the chrome and wheels up. then went for a test drive since it was a beautiful night!

very nice. you got lucky. ive had to replace 3 or 4 rotors all ready. i always catch them too late. also i do breaks about once every 2 years. so thats normal.

Getting ready to have replaced (2) rotors and calipers and brake lines on the back. Truck has 164 k miles and unfortunately due to finances being bad couldn't get to them in time. This vehicle was formerly a Undercover drug squad vehicle owned by a Sherrifs Dept and who knows how hard they were on the brakes. Being handicapped, a job I used to do I can no longer tackle is going to cost me almost $500, ouch!


Thats life. Already planning to have the fronts done this summer because they don't look to have too much life left either. Hopefully I do not have any more repairs to do this year.

The sad part is I have all the tools and I used to do my own brakes. Probably a 2 hour job at worst with all new parts. I hope I don't ever need a transmission.

stop posting pics of Alaska..... damn it I need to move.... but in june my parents are going to JBER and taking my daughter to visit my sister up there... I wanna go but can't miss work...lol... but I am still trying to find a way to move to AK...
