The Waze update is out, who is using it instead of the native navigation?

On the return drive we used the built-in Nav and it worked pretty well. I just had Waze running on my phone below and could hear the Waze warnings. Couple of things I thought would be cool:

1. It definitely would be nice to have a knob to pan and zoom the map (this could just be what I'm used to from my car)
2. If this ability exists, I haven't stumbled across it yet: it would be nice to have the option to show north as up. Again this is personal preference, and my wife doesn't like this, so I realize it's not for everyone, but I like it because it helps with geographic awareness and context.
3. Ability to combine the weather map from Sync with the Navigation map. We were driving through Arkansas yesterday and I knew we were going to hit some bad weather so I kept switching between the Nav map and the Sync map.

#3 would be so great!

Now that iOS12 is out, if you update your Google Maps app to the newest version (5.0), it will come up as a mapping option on your CarPlay screen. No Waze yet as Waze is working on its app to make it play nice with CarPlay, but you at least now have an AppleMaps alternative in your CarPlay screen.

Been playing with Google Maps today. Works great... It routed me a strange way once, but other than that, the interface is awesome!

Used it on my commute this morning - no issues. I didn't figure out how to add an alert which is one of the best things about Waze, but this website has the overview I needed: http://www.carplaylife.com/feature/...ow-available-for-all-here-is-our-walkthrough/
I do prefer Waze over Apple Maps, although I am not as rabid about it as others. It's quite a bit easier to set destinations, and allows for multiple stops along a single route.

Thanks for posting that walkthrough, very helpful. I haven’t used Waze since the car play addition but I do have a king trip coming up that I’ll probably use it for either as an additional map on the phone for the alerts or through car play, I haven’t decided yet.

Woo it is a process.

Phone has to be plugged in, CarPlay has to be turned off in the Sync menu, phone must be unlocked and waze must be on the phone screen.

Go to Apps on your center stack screen and select Waze. MOST of the time it will work. But you have to leave your phone on.

Why wouldn't you just use CarPlay which allows you to use Waze directly? I mean, you do you, I'm just being nosy.
