So, I tend to pride myself on paying attention when working on anything. Being an IT guy attention to detail is a must or one little unplugged cable in a server can create chaos when trying to troubleshoot. With that said, I'm lucky.
As you all know I replaced the motor in this 2000 EB. Everything has been good, even the el cheapo coil packs I used. Once in a while it will seem like it misses a little or idles a little rough, but hey, its florida, its hot, alcohol gas sucks so I'm not throwing codes so no biggie. Overall it runs good, getting around 10.5mpg in town with a bit of idling and 16 on the highway. Today I get out of the truck and I get a minor whiff of hot coolant. Pop the hood, the degas bottle is full, nothing on the ground. I had to double clamp the hose fitting going to the cross over on the intake (dumb design) so I know that isn't dripping. Look back at the line coming from the water pump up to the T lines at the firewall. I see a hose clamp not where it should be. Feel back to the heater core and yep, I totally forgot to put the hose clamp in place and tighten it up. I've put 1000 miles on this thing and at best its dripped a little. Maybe that water on the connectors was my rough idle (cops were really tight in the spark plug well so it can't have water inside). There is a T that feeds to the back so maybe the pressure was never enough to push the hose off. But I honestly can't believe that. When I released the coolant cap on the degas bottle it had pressure. Most likely there has been water on the ground but I thought it was condensation or it was leaking into the back of the block area and vaporizing since it was a drip.
All I can say, sometimes its better to be lucky than good.
