So, I tend to pride myself on paying attention when working on anything. Being an IT guy attention to detail is a must or one little unplugged cable in a server can create chaos when trying to troubleshoot. With that said, I'm lucky.

As you all know I replaced the motor in this 2000 EB. Everything has been good, even the el cheapo coil packs I used. Once in a while it will seem like it misses a little or idles a little rough, but hey, its florida, its hot, alcohol gas sucks so I'm not throwing codes so no biggie. Overall it runs good, getting around 10.5mpg in town with a bit of idling and 16 on the highway. Today I get out of the truck and I get a minor whiff of hot coolant. Pop the hood, the degas bottle is full, nothing on the ground. I had to double clamp the hose fitting going to the cross over on the intake (dumb design) so I know that isn't dripping. Look back at the line coming from the water pump up to the T lines at the firewall. I see a hose clamp not where it should be. Feel back to the heater core and yep, I totally forgot to put the hose clamp in place and tighten it up. I've put 1000 miles on this thing and at best its dripped a little. Maybe that water on the connectors was my rough idle (cops were really tight in the spark plug well so it can't have water inside). There is a T that feeds to the back so maybe the pressure was never enough to push the hose off. But I honestly can't believe that. When I released the coolant cap on the degas bottle it had pressure. Most likely there has been water on the ground but I thought it was condensation or it was leaking into the back of the block area and vaporizing since it was a drip.

All I can say, sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

I had that line pop off while on the interstate. Just crossed the border from AR to OK. I got off on the first exit and reattached the hose and added around 4 gallons of coolant. When I got home to CO, I replaced the connector on the firewall with new one since the brittle plastic on the old connectors is what failed.

Interesting...didn't realize those were replaceable. I just assumed it was part of the core. This was simply my error, but the fact it stayed in place amazes me.

Coolant overflow, degas bottle, antifreeze reservoir, radiator expansion tank, blow-down chamber, boilover box - I've heard that thing called a bunch of names, but never "detex". And you said it twice, so I'm intrigued.

Degas is the correct term. Not sure where the hell I came up with detex. Apparently to many coolant fumes? :)

Damn Detex is the push alarm on a fire door. LOL....degas bottle...yeah that.
