Thinking about a new Expedition

What is the life going to be on the ecco-boost engine? My 5.4 has over 205000 and no big problems. I've heard about the internal WATER PUMP PROBLEM AND THE CAM PHASER ISSUE BUT WHAT OTHER PROBLEMS ARE OUT THERE?

Anybody out there? Looking for feedback, positive or negative. My 2013 has been a great car just like my 2005 was.

My previous vehicle was a 2013 F150 with the Gen 1 3.5 EcoBoost. I traded it in with 185,000 miles and it was still running strong. It did have an occasion misfire in cyl 6 but nothing that affected overall performance. Nothing but general maintenance done.

Since 2018 models they are using the Gen 2 EcoBoost that was engineered to address some of the issues identified with the Gen 1 and other than the wastegate and cam phaser issues (you can search for those) I personally don't know of any other long term issues.

I have a Gen 4 2020 and from what I have heard, the '20s have the cam-phaser issue "worked out."

Either way, I am continually concerned about the longevity with a twin turbo'ed, 10spd, twin fuel injected, etc.
It is a ton of tech that really strives to get great fuel mileage, emissions and a ton of power. This thing is fast, even with 87 octane.

Don't know what price will be paid at 100K+ but it seems driving it on the hard-duty schedule helps (quality synthetic changes at 5-6K, etc.) If I keep this past 100K it will be under a full extended warranty.

I just found out a friend that bought a 2020 Navigator has sold it because of engine issues and he is buying a new GMC Yukon

Hes gonna have issues with that yukon. The gm thread has many of them being problematic.

The 3.5L ecoboost has been in production for, what, 10 years now, being primarily used in the best selling vehicle in the United States. I think that counts as a proven design. Note that the only response here of any problems are 2nd hand...

Ecoboost and even the 5.0’s have all well documented ailments. You can search easily.

I’ll follow this thread as I just posted a thread asking opinions on what truck or suv, new or used, can last another 10 years minimum and do 300k miles without opening the engine or tranny.

Fuel mileage irrelevant. 90% highway driving. Occasional 5000lb tow long distance.

$35k budget.

Is there such a thing anymore? I mean since the gen 5.4 2v engines.
