Hey guys, new to the forum and hope its as good as some others i belong to. I recently purchased a 03 xlt and have a list of stuff to do. My first thing is i need new tires. I want mud terrains and have some in mind. My question is how big can i go with the stock rims. Some have told me i can do 305/65/17. Most websites only want to substitute stock size, and there aren't too many custom shops around that i trust. I am most likely going to purchase new rims as well, but will be sticking with 17's if i can. Definitely wont go bigger. If anything, would go smaller. Any info or pics would be greatly appreciated.....

I think most of us have gone to larger diameter wheels. I have 20" King Ranch Wheels with 275/60/R20 Cooper Zeon LTZ Tires. They rub just a little when I have turned the wheel all the way to the right.

The difference between what I have and what you are proposing is 1.18 mm Your tire size is 12.01 mm and mine are 10.83 mm so you might rub a little as well when you crank the wheel one way or the other. You could put a 5 mm spacer which would eliminate any possibility of rubbing. My tires are rather knobby on the edges and if you went with standard tire which are more tapered on the edges it might not rub at all.

He won't rub with a 305...I want to say that he can go as tall as 75...so 305/75/17

freeway you have to take into account the "knobs" on an M/T or A/T vs a "smooth" street or low profile tire. With the 285/70/17 i have, i was rubbing at full lock (stock height). The tire knobs were catching the inner fender plastic, when turned to almost full lock.

Tallsville, that is exactly what I experience with my Zeons.
