Hello to the board..just purchased a 1998 expidition which is in the need for new tires. Looking for street/hway tires which will also be good in rain and snow..Do not do any off roading. Appreciate anyones input.

I like my Goodyear wrangler sr-a. Quiet, smooth and do well in the rain. It doesn't snow in Fl so I could not tell you about that.

My choices would be Toyo Open Country all terrain, General grabber AT2 or nitto terra grapplers. I am still driving on my bald goodyears till tax time. I dont offorad I pavemnet pound and gravel driveways and these are the 3 I have narrowed down to with the help from these great folks here. General grabber AT2 are at the top of my list.

The Goodyear Fortera with Tripletred are a great tire for response in most weather conditions and pretty highly rated
I had Goodyear Wrangler RT/S before and they were OK when new but went downhill fast and had lousy traction.
My current Michelin Cross Terrains were good in the beginning but have gotten a little harder riding as they now have about 50K on them.
The best rated tire I can find is the Michelin LTX M/S2.

A little bit off the beaten path, but I just got Yokahama Geolander AT-S put on the rear. Rode very nice on my 1000 mile trip over X-mas, and they got pretty good reviews for wet weather/snowy conditions. Money was tight, and I got them for $146 a piece, so that was a factor in choosing them. A fairly aggressive tread for a street tire too.

i love my falken rocky mountains, same as the wild peaks, just discount tire name. havent tryed them in snow since there is no snow in SD. but rain i love them and excellent traction on dry pavement.

I can only comment on my stock goodyear wrangler rts. I find they provide a nice comfortable and quiet ride. They are very good in the snow and dry but I would not rate rain traction quite as high. Overall I am happy with them but not a "manly" tire...lol.

BFG AT hands down. Superior stoping power/traction. Superior snow/rain traction. Aggresive looks. Rim guard. I run this tire on all my trucks, it is the best tire I have ever run.

The Grabber AT2's..... JUNK! I had a set on my ranger in a 265/70/16. I got stuck in wet grass. With my BFG AT, that would not have happened.

Also, the BFG AT has EXCELLENT tire wear. Heres a pic of mine at over 10k miles.

Michelin LTX M/S2 - I have these on mine and could not be happier with them. But I am 90% on road. I have had them through two rainy seasons here in FL and very happy with the way they hold the road - even pulling into traffic on wet roads in my non-LSD 4x4 Expy (still no clue why it was ordered that way). They have seen some very light mud and lots of slick boat ramps. They may even see snow here in the next couple of weeks if we take it to NC. They are expensive, but I have run them on my last 3 vehicles. Good luck, Mike.

Firestone Destination LE's if you dont do any off roading. Had a set on my Explorer, and they did EXCELLENT in the Rain & Snow as well as on dry pavement, VERY good wear and smooth quiet ride. Nice thing is there is a Firestone dealer almost anywhere if you needed to use the road hazzard warranty.

When I traded the Explorer for the Expedition, I went with the Firestone Destination AT's which is a bit more agressive. So far they have been very quiet, and have excellent traction.

Go to TireRack.com and check the customer reviews for various tires. That was very helpful for me. Good Luck!

i loved my bfgs as well. but they didnt love the truck. those things took a beating though. plug in one tire sidewall missing on another tiger scratched on another and super uneven wear on the 4th. but yet they were bald and held up great. again i love the falkens as well. im hoping to test them in the desert this season, hopefully.
