Well, after cleaning my truck today I climbed up under it and noticed that my transmission has a minor leak. Would this be the reason why the over drive is flashing, or would this be an addition to the OTHER reason that has to do with it flashing?

I'm going to have it looked at tomorrow.

Interesting clue. Sorry if this an obvious question, but did you check the tranny fluid level stick? I don't know if low fluid will cause an OD light flash, but it sure can affect shift behavior.

Where is the leak coming from?

If it is just from the pan or the tail shaft then no that would not cause the blinking O/D light, but if it is coming from a pressure line then it could.

INTERCEPTOR - In most situations low fluid level would not cause the light to flash, but you do bring up a good point. If the fluid level where to get EXTREMLY low and there was a bunch of "trash" in the bottom of the pan, then I could see the filter becoming clogged and the posibility of the blinking O/D light for low pressure.

The leak is coming from the bottom middle of the tranny.

Maybe there is someone out there with more tech savvy than I who can chime in and say for sure.. however I did a quick search of other forums (F150, etc) and there were a number of similar symptoms due to low fluid (maybe causing the pressure sensor to detect lower pressure? I don't know for sure)..

Either way, for the cost of some tranny fluid it might be worth the gamble to clear the flashing, prevent other/more damage.. until a time where you get get the leak investigated.

Check the transmission on the passanger side of the truck, about half way up the side of the tranny you should see 2 hard metal lines going in to the trans. Is it leaking at either of those lines and running down or is it just the pan gasket leaking ( run you finger around the edge of the pan and see if you can find where the leak is coming from).

I'll have to check tomorrow, it's dark here now. :flame:

Do you think it's safe to drive or should I have a friend drive me to work?

If you are that low on fluid and don't have any to put in then leave it parked until you can put some more fluid in!

Between low fluid and the blinking light you could possibly cause some damage by driving it.

the flashing OD light is saying low line pressure... could be do to low fluid or clogged filter or weak pump

I was thinking the same thing. I'll have to buy a bottle from autozone tomorrow and see if that makes any difference, if not I guess I'll make the trip to aamco. Do you think it'll take more than an hour or so for them to "evaluate" the problem?

I would imagine that unless they see something obvious on the outside (like mentioned above with the lines), they are probably going to (at the very least) run diags and want to drop the pan - which will of course involve fluid replacement. I would think that will be close to an hour right there.

weak pump? meaning that it needs to be replaced? wouldn't that be a part of rebuilding the entire tranny?

You shouldn't have a week pump with that low of milage and if you did have a week pump you would notice problems with reverse first since it takes the most pressure to operate.

The blinking O/D light can be more than just low line pressure, that light is used for any malfunction or fault code in the trans. There are many different sensors that could be causing the problem.

I would definatley let AMMCO check the codes, but like I said earlier don't let them drop the pan. You can do your own trans service ( filter and fluid change ) for alot cheaper than they will do it.

i had my light blink once. and it was shifting really weird. then i parked and it stoped. what ever. but with my tune i have it on some shifts. stiffer i think. i dont remember. and some times she doesnt like to shift into 3rd or 2nd and i red line a little bit or she drops into 1st while im doing 45 when i floor it to pass. so i red line. not to funn with a big rig coming close up. so is my problem with the tune or is it with the fact that i never changed the fluid in the 160+k miles i have on her? i wanna do it but hear nothing but bad things.

Panda - for your issue I would say try putting your truck back on the stock tune and see if it still does this!

BTW which trans do you have? If you can let me know I will try to pull up some info on it. I don't think you are running the 4r100 becuase of your year but I am just not sure.
