I am looking to upgrade the stock rims on my 18' Platinum reg length. Trying to decide whether to go with 22" or 20" rims. Anyone have any experience going down in size and any improvements in terms of ride

20's will be smoother, but the 22's will be better looking in my opinion. I prefer the looks of the 22's and take a slight hit on the ride quality.

I plan to swap out the 22's with the 20's that come on Limiteds at the dealership when I pick up the truck. Mainly for ride comfort and less unsprung weight but also for expanded tire selection. The 22's that come with the 302s or Platinums are underwhelming to me, especially compared to what comes on the Denali Ultimate package.

Id put the 2017 f150 limited 22s on there, they look do much better and would fit the look of the truck

1,000% the tire determines the ride. I paid for quality 305/45/22 tires and the ride is fantastic. Better than the OEM Pirelli Scorpions - maybe a little more noise at turnpike speed but the ride confidence and agility is double. I went from OEM 20" to Saleen 21", to aftermarket 20" in OEM size, to current F150 22" and can tell you the tires make the difference. When I had the 21's the tire selection was very limited. I bought General tires and was immediately disappointed. Took them completely off the truck with just a few thousand miles of use. Balance was dead on, experimented with PSI settings, eventually realized I bought something this side of Cooper.

A coworker put complete garbage 18 inch tires on his King Ranch Expedition and the ride is total crap. Nexen, a total 3rd rate brand. Every road expansion joint is amplified and the howling above 40 - 50 MPH is insane. And thats with the 65 aspect ratio sidewall that stubborn old men will tell you makes the difference in ride quality. You know, the ones who think all tread compounds are the same.

The $250K+ ultimate luxury SUV - Bentley Bentayga - has a variety of wheel/tire packages. All 20" or larger, 275 or 285 wide, 40 to 50 series, nothing taller. The rough riding rubber band tires, because Bentley owners enjoy a harsh ride.

I love the Denali ultimate wheels. Something about the dark machine + chrome look makes me smile. Note you can get them without the GMC logo on eBay.

Which tires did you end up with? I 100% agree with your first line btw.
