I have a 2WD and my stock tires are 255/70R16 (or 30"). Im soon changing to 18x10"s so my tire shop's suggestion was to go with 285/60R18 (or 31.5" tires). Thats a 5% difference in diameter which is above the recommended 4% to not affect ABS or speedo and odo readings.

Should I replace with the proper size tires (that is try to meet the factory 30") or am I making too big of a deal about this?

Why not just go to a 275/55R18 or a 275/60R18 ?

The first one is basically the same overall size and the second one is 3% larger.

Coming from an all-car background (the XP is my only big SUV) the norm is to always meet factory size. OK Im glad I wasnt over thinking it. Since most guys get oversized tires I figured there must be more to it than just upsizing the tires

I will check prices for the 55 and 60 series tires. Thanks

I also think that most of those performance programmers will also allow you to calibrate the new tire size in to the ecu. You may want to contact one of the manufacturers to see what capabilities their programmers have.

Only 99 and newer the 97-98 have to do it the old fashioned way
