Used Expy's seemed to dry up here in the NJ area. When do the best used deals start popping up?

I looking for a lower mileage EL (under 100k) and I noticed the number of available units has dropped off. I am thinking people are holding off selling because they are waiting for end of year deals on new cars in October.
Is this likely what is going on? Any guys who are in the car industry that know for sure?

Thanks

I bought an 08 last year with 70K miles in New York and I was searching for a year.

I suppose the folks who buy $60,000 cars don't sell them quickly, and the leases get turned over at Ford dealers. Very, very hard to find them. It's a strange economy right now -- people are unsure of the future and gas is very cheap. The new cars are horribly expensive too and folks have learned that these big trucks give well over 100,000 miles of trouble free service. The Internet has also leveled selling prices: In three minutes you can see exactly what a car's worth and price it in line. Nobody gives anything away.

If you know a private dealer who has access to the Manheim auctions, you can find some there, but they're not cheap and the auction cars are often flawed.

Finally found mine on Craigslist locally and paid good money ($12K) for it. A very clean, well outfitted car but not the steal I spent a year looking for.

If you really want a car, check with the Ford dealers, but expect to pay a premium of perhaps 30%...

Possibly because the new ones are outrageously expensive, so people are holding on to em?

Also EL's aren't that common

Try expanding your search by adding in Navigator L's

Depending on your budget, buying from a rental company might be a solid option for you. They're generally well-maintained vehicles with a substantially reduced purchase price. The only downside is that they're necessarily late-model and so might be beyond your budget.

Based on a quick search Enterprise seems to be the only one that has ELs available. They're 2017s in the $26k-$33k range.

I agree with a used rental. I picked up a great 2017 Limited this past April from Enterprise with 41k miles, for $31k. Full limited outfit including leather, new tires, beautiful silver color. They gave me a 12-month warranty since it was past the Ford warranty. There were several really nice non-Limited vehicles available with less than 39k miles, typically priced at $28k-$29k. Most were in Maryland but were sent over to Virginia at no cost.

2017 came with 4 different Ford warranties.

His 3 year /36k mile bumper to bumper warranty expired at 36K. His newly purchased truck has 41K.

The 5 year / 60K mile powertrain coverage is still in effect.
The 5 year / 60k mile safety restraint coverage is still in effect.
The 5 year /unlimited mileage corrosion coverage is still in effect.

My problem is my budget is $22k so rentals are out. Also I want to avoid the new engine. I was looking at the Nav. L but really I do not want all the fancy expensive and time consuming not needed accessories. Truthfully, I prefer the base model with the important items being remote mirrors and cruise control. I usually do all my own work and find simpler is well simpler.

Just looked at a car at a larger dealer in PA. It was a rust hog. A 56k mile 2011 for $19,900. First I looked under the hood and the upper control arm had surface rust with some flaky rust in places. A quick check under neath and the frame was rust pitted and the body seams bulging with rust. Ran away from that one.

Shop higher mileage.

Most of your Gator L's will be ex-livery. That don't come with sub-100k odometers. But you could leave some of that 22k in your pocket.

...and, on the bright side, I've even seen em for sale with 397k and 402k.

If you don't want rust, get a westcoast desert truck. Find a few in the same area, make appointments, fly out, buy, and make a roadtrip vacation off the trip back
