I am putting larger tires on my 1997 EB this week (265/70/17 to 315/75/16) and would like some info on the VSS gear.

I am pretty sure I have the 3.73 gears and want to replace the VSS gear to fix the speedo and shifting.

Also, how do you figure out which gear you need? And maybe more importantly, where can you buy the different size gears?

I have tried to search the internet but haven't been able to find anything really useful. I wish I could just get a programmer to do it, but it seems I bought one two years to early for that.

Thanks.

If you have a good transmission shop nearby, you can ask them.

Or better yet a really good 4x4 shop.

Instead of spending the money on that, get a programmer and get the fix for tire size and wake the truck up as well.

I wish I could just get a programmer and do both, but my truck apparently uses a gear for the speedo.

Its supposed to be easy to change, if I can determine which one I need.

I don't think there is an expedition that uses an old fashioned gear and cable. The vss is a sensor, not a gear. I could be wrong but I think you would need a programmer to solve the speeding issue.
