I have a 2000 model with the 5.4L.On the water crossover i have a nipple next to the hose and the nipple has a vacuum cap on it with a clamp. This vacuum cap has bursted a few times in the last few weeks. Is this a factory setup or is this some aftermarket setup?I have gotten 3 different answers from 3 different people locally. One says it's a backyard fix another says it's factory fix and the best of all the dealership is not sure of what it is.They think there is suppose to be a hose where the vacuum cap is at but not sure.I had a pressure test done and everything came out ok but i still do not know why this vacuum cap keeps bursting.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

The manual says it is either the "heater water inlet hose or the heated PCV inlet hose". That little cap is a plug for one of them being disconnected.
The usual quick fix is a piece of hose with a bolt shoved in one end & hose clamps holding it together.

Does your heater work?

Found photo online. Since it is pressed in you may have to do as stamp suggested unless you can find what it goes too and reconnect. Interestingly enough that nipple is not shown on the exploded views in my ford shop manual ?!. Possibly a replacement manifold that has applications in different vehicle??

Doesn't exist on mine?!

This morning I ended up buying a piece of fuel line and putting a bolt in the open end and clamping both ends.SO far it's holding up.My parents are the original owners of the vehicle . i read somewhere on another forum that that crosover is a aftermarket part but i have not done anything to the vehicle like that nor has my parents.I'm just trying to get them back on the road again. Thanks for everybody's help here it's much appreciated. And yes the heater does work.
