So two months ago I created a post looking for the factory head unit for my truck. I hated the sound out of the old Pioneer unit that was in it (Ancient Unit).


I changed the door speakers to Pioneer TSA6885r and picked up a Boss Audio DVD Head unit to put in the truck.

Additionally I found someone had already changed the Amp and sub. and did a decent job of it.

Sadly I am still disappointed with the sound I beleive the main problem is still the headunit. I have never used BOSS audio on anything and I beleive this unit to be HIGHLY overrated according to the factory specs on the receiver.

I am now rectifying that situation, and bought a new Pioneer AVH-X2500BT that should be here on Tuesday. From what I am reading the RMS out is ALOT less than the BOSS head unit. At Only 14 watt RMS are my speakers going to sound worse?

Should I consider adding a 4 channel amp to power the Pioneer speakers in the doors? Or should I consider changing the door speakers again and going with components this time or will the head unit swap make a difference I will be happy with.

If not which amp should I consider to power all 4 door speakers, if not that route which components should I consider?

The sub sounds fine but I am sincerely disappointed in the door speakers, in both clarity and volume.

First, Leave the speakers, get sound deadening. Proper sound deadening.

Second, I'll just put it out there and this is just my own opinion. BOSS audio sucks. they claim 300-340w of output on their DVD decks. There is absolutely no way in hell they can do that. None. That said no your speakers will not be quieter with the pioneer.

One of the biggest problems I find and hear about is when people put in a new deck and new speakers and it doesn't sound good. the main problem with this is factory amps. These amps have been tuned to work with the stock deck and stock speakers. With any new install you need to tune it, problem with factory decks is they have little to no tuning ability. A 4ch amp is always a good idea if you can swing it. Also if you get a 4ch don't go crazy, those Pioneer speakers perform really well starting at around 20w per channel RMS. Look for something with 40-50w per ch RMS and they will be awesome.

So the new Pioneer is installed along with the Axxess AWSC, AND holy crap what a difference. I am absolutely amazed at the sound difference. The speakers are clearer, brighter, more responsive and louder. If the unit holds up I would definetly suggest the Pioneer to anyone. Just an amazing overall unit. I kind of assumed when I bought it that the BOSS audio was overrated, but figured it was worth the gamble for $50 it wasn't. I think that particular head unit is about 5 times over rated for what it is. Just because of how bad the unit is I will never consider another Boss audio purchase.

whats the recommened mil for sound deadening? 40 mil? 60 mil? 80 mil? i want to do my doors too...tailgate

Sig, good that your happy. If you haven't done it yet, do the deadening. it will get even better.

Freeway, for the deadening it kinda depends on how far you want to go. I have 3 layers on the back doors and tail gate (2 on the outer skin and one on the inner with extra around the speakers) and 4 layers on the front doors (2 on outer and 2 on inner) as well as one layer on the rear quarters. each layer is around 1.7mm thick

how were you even able to get it in the inside of the door??? once i take the panel off i can only apply to door and put panel back on...

All door will have opening to do work on the windows, door locks etc.

Its a bit of a pain in the butt to get the deadening in there but its very much worth it.

SGTowing, yes I can still hear a bit from outside lol. I still have to do the floor and roof with deadening. I have another 120 sq/f waiting to be installed.

BTW getting a little off topic, if anyone up in my area and wants to hear the difference the deadening makes let me know. Your more than welcome to come demo the system.
